It's been two years since I'm in love with you...

One fine night I stumbled upon a glowing review of this band. I got curious, downloaded "Loving You", and have been hooked ever since.

Their music is a combination of all the things I love: acoustic guitars, luscious, creamy vocals, harmony and they're easy to listen to. Theirs are the songs that makes me want to kick my slippers off, sit back with a cup of iced tea and just chill. Or to snuggle underneath a warm blanket on a rainy day, with a cup of steaming hot coffee (it's not good coffee it it's lukewarm) and a good book. I could play their tracks for days on end and not get bored.

D'Cinnamons started out singing in cafes in Bandung before they decided to get serious and write their own songs. They were given airtime on Paramuda Radio, gathered lots of fans from that and finally released "Good Morning" in 2007.

I've been hunting high and low for their album in Jogja because music this good I want to hold on to forever and bring back with me to Bintulu. So far, I've not been successful. :(

My Somebody

Dear Somebody,

I'm in a weird place right now. On one hand I am happy to be on my own. On the other hand I am in serious need of some company. I'm at a point in life where almost everybody has somebody and I'm left alone. Sometimes sheer loneliness makes me feel like running back to the other person but I know it is wrong. That is a short term solution, one that I know will lead to nowhere.

I've not been alone for a long time and I've forgotten what it's like to be content with my own company. I shouldn't depend on anyone for my own happiness; that is something I know. But it is something which i find hard/don't quite know how to apply to myself.

Somebody,

Ever since I turned 24 I've made a string of bad decisions, one after the other. You would think that I would learn my lesson from the first mistake, but as it turned out, I did not and I kept on playing with fire. And I got burnt. I won't give excuses, suffice to say that I am 24, I am still in Jogja and I'm going to have all the fun i can get. I was feeling invincible, I felt young and free to make as many mistakes as I needed to learn. I raced down the highway with breakneck speed and now I am paying for that folly. It is hard. So hard. But as always, time is my friend and has been extremely kind.

It made me think of the people I meet in life. The ones who walk in and are there to stay. The ones that walk in and then walk out, they either break your heart or make you sigh with relief. The ones who pass by and you didn't bother to get to know them, and you miss out on the chance of enriching your life. I opened up to 3 people recently: I walked out on one as fast as I walked in, one walked out on me and broke my heart, one was a friend from the past whom I have dearly missed.

I also took a step back and evaluated the people in my life. I put them into 2 easy categories: those who are there through thick and thin and those who are there for the good times only. The former I'm going to keep like treasured gold, the latter.. well. Not a priority.

Then I thought about you. Maybe you're already in my life but the time is not right yet. Or maybe you're someone I have yet to meet. Whoever you are, take your time. I am in no rush. I need this time to spend with myself, to find myself and to build a solid character. Hopefully when our paths finally cross, I will be a person worthy of you.

That's how I've been feeling these days.

5 years have gone by so fast. It feels like it was just yesterday when i got my ass dumped in Sendowo, which was still very kampung when we first arrived. Every morning 5 of us 'Sendowo Girls', as they called us, would walk to campus with the manuk and itit. The dances we performed together, the most mortifying being the High School Musical remake (what were we thinking??!), the meals together, the shopping trips, the blunders (I think the answer's Salmonella cos it sounds like salmon, so it should be motile -_-")... Aaah.. Good times :)

I've started feeling nostalgic a few months back, thinking about all the places, food and people that I'll miss. I'll miss you, Kapel Panti Rapih, and the awesome choir groups. I love it when the sisters sing because they always sing "We Remember" and "The Lord is My Shepherd", two hymns that I only discovered after coming here. I love the way Gereja Santo Antonius at Kota Baru (Kobar) celebrates youth mass and all the major Catholic events. They really go all out with the decorations, plays, dances and the songs.

I'll miss my roti bakar coklat keju, lotek, pecel, rujak es krim, jus alpukat, susu jahe, kering kentang, wingko, ayam kremes, nasi kebuli, all the different sambals and this list could go on forever.

I'll miss saying "Ke selatan, Pak" or "Ke Utara, Pak", . Or how you're not supposed to wear green when you go to the beach because that is Nyi Roro Kidul's colour. I'll miss all the gamelan and traditional Javanese music.

I'll miss trying to speak in Javanese and failing miserably "Nek dikeluhkan sekarang opo, pak?" or smiling and nodding while a patient chatters animatedly in Javanese padahal i dont understand a word he/she says.

I'll miss using Dutch words like gratis, wastafel, stofmap, VK for verlos kamer (delivery room), handscoon. I'll miss going to Sardjito, i'll miss talking in Bahasa Indonesia, saying things like "Gaya, elo" or "Masak siiiiih?". Hahaha

The people.

Gosh, I'll miss the people so much. My batchmates, my wacky-annoying-fun-drives me up the wall koas groupmates, the doctors, the residents, the bapak-bapak Satpam, the neighbourhood ibu-ibu who cooks and sells food.

Diatu aku ba stase Mata. My last stase everrrrr!!! It was a year and 3 months ago when i was looking to this time and thinking "dang, such a long way to go!" and now im finally here!

soon i'll be out in the working world and the thought is overwhelming. i'll have real responsibilities, i have bills to pay, etc etc. i cant breathe.

It was a love hate relationship between me and the Obsgyn department. On one hand I strongly dislike the sweat, smell, blood, turd and torn vaginas. on the other hand the residents were great and so were my groupmates.

Indu pertama ditulung aku beranak ianya indu ari Jawa Barat, who got married to a man from Jawa Tengah. Entua iya ke indu ngulu ke iya beranak. bala bidan ngajar iya neran tang ngena jaku jawa, ni tudah nemu, urang ga bangsa sunda. nya meh iya ditengil bala bidan mangah. seumur ngau aku indu nya, first child. nyu terkilan ku meda iya udah kawin, udah bisi anak. aku belajar pen bedau tembu. hahah! sut! indai paling biak ti ditulung aku umur iya 18 tahun, beranak anak kedua.

Days Gone By

Whew, it's been forever since my last post!

First there was Paediatrics: loved being in NICU, didn't like the wards that much. Loved putting the babies to sleep, feeding them spoonfuls of milk and watching them tan under UV light to make the yellow go away. Loved the older kids but couldn't take the crying. Had 4 weeks of fun in Wates for outstation posting, tried wingko for the very first time, enjoyed the every other day drive through the Javanese countryside.

Then came Dermatology and Venereology(DV). Had an awesome clinical instructor who combined all the sciences ie Chemistry, Physics and Bio (duh) in his management of DV patients. He's a genius and inspiring in so many ways; I'll always remember him. Was posted in Purworejo for one week, the CI there was a tyrant who actually made me tear up (Verrucas are papules and not nodules, I'll always remember that, sir, and you can give them 5-FU). Went back to Jogja for exams, answer sheet was rejected because invigilator left the room without announcing her departure (WTF, I actually went a bit crazy), had to sit for the same exam 4 weeks later and by golly am I smug because I found out today that I aaaaced it (who's your daddy? :p)

Then came Neuro. Entered the department thinking I was gonna hate it, left it feeling like hm.. neuro could be my calling. Got a nice resident for pembimbing in Sardjito who taught me a lot. Went to Sleman for one week, where the resident was a nice, happily married man who acts like a married man. He taught us tonnes of stuffs too. *sniffs* how can I ever repay you guys?? Got a gila menakutkan penguji, jadi bingung sendiri mikirin cara mau dapetin A. ya udah, lo belajar aja di sana. And you know what.. it wasn't so bad at all :)

Tu meh cehita kami dikembula ka bala kaban laki, dibai uhang nginti. Enggai kami memula ya, laban udah ngadang diri enda ngam ba endur main sida ya.

Nama gaga kami din deh? Angat enda? Bisi endur duduk legi?

Bisi, ko sida ya. Kitu meh kitak, bisi pun kelapa enggau gubuk-gubuk romantis ditu, pia ko sida ya.

Ninga jaku gubuk-gubuk romantis nya alu tetipu meh kami tu tadi.

Nya gamal gubuk romantis ko sida ya -_-" Gamal uhang ke dibai nginti. Nama utai ke ulih? Mutar ke tali ginti udah salah; ni ka bulih ikan? Hehe. Bisi 2 bansa pegung endur nginti dia. Siti bansa ke bebayar per ari, siti agi bebayar per kilo ikan ti diulih. Sepiak-sepiak pegung bisi umai uhang dia.

Alu mehuan bisi kedai makai sepiak pegung nya. Sambil nginti sambil makai. Ukai bisi lantai mehuan uhang menua. Lantai tanah aja. Kami sempat hemban meda ba ujung bilik bisi siti pangking ditutup enggau langsir, ngumbai nya jamban. Pahai kitaiii, tapi ternyata endur uhang solat. Nyin lalap, meda kita leka ijo mit-mit ko aku nya? Enda kala aku meda pengelama aku diau ba Entulu. Bisi ikan bakar, daun singkong hebus, sambal tehasi enggau sambal kecap. Nama utai ke diulih? Cihit seminggu-minggu enggau masalah pehut udah nya.

Laban enda puas nadai utai ke diulih udah pulai sida iya alu ngeheja ke ikan ba pegung Pak Nur. Ngena umpan tempe sida ya nginti, ma udah bulih dilepas ka bahu. Nya meh bala capuh gaga ke ikan ba belakang humah :) Pak Nur ke baju buhak megai kayu ginti nya. Nya pengawa kami first weekend ba Bantarsari.

Last day ba Bantarsari, begambar sebedau niki bas. Ari kiba: Bete, Er, Wanab, Ibu Nur, Krisna, Iki, Pak Nur, dr Hasan enggau Pak Aji.

Last night, y'all.

Enda berasai udah datai ba pengujung prugrim K3M. Nadai prugrim bukai maya udah ujung-ujung tu selain dibai urang makai kin kia. Kemari kami udah nemuai ngagai rumah Pak Aji, kepala Puskesmas Bantarsari lalu ditupi iya enggau sate sapi, sate jeroan (innards), enggau opor ayam (kari Jawa).

Lemai tu tadi ditupi Pak dokter Hasan enggau rawon (sup chapi celum) specialty keluarga besar aku tu, ko Pak Hasan. Selalunya diempa urang enggau telur asin, kecambah (baby tauge), daun kemangi, timun enggau sambel terasi (belacan).

Udah makai ba Pak Hasan makai enggau sida Pak Nur sabilik agi. Makai manuk kampung bakar, sambal mata, sambal goreng enggau lalap (sayur mata baka kubis, timun, buah terung ijo ke mit bulat baka bola ping pong nya enggau buah mit-mit warna ijau). Lalap nya sema jako baka salad sida ribai, sayur tradisional orang Sunda. Ngalih ke Barat pulau Jawa tu mayuh gi urang Sunda. Baka ba Bantarsari tu, enda semua bala inek aki ulih dibai jaku Jawa laban sida ya urang Sunda.. Tang jaku Jawa ditu lain agi ari jaku Jawa Jogja. Ba Bandung mayuh urang Sunda, bala indu burak-burak bajik-bajik. Nya alai urang Bandung enggai dikumbai urang Jawa, laban Jawa chelum.

Pulai ke cerita makai tadi. Akaii, bendar perut ngenat ke telan. Kelimpah ari nya kami disediaka Ibu Nur sekutak besai kerepek pisang enggau salai pisang ngambi bisi dibai pulai tauka diempa kita ba rantau jalai, ko iya. Pak Hasan sama meri salai pisang. Sale (spelling Jawa) pisang bisi dua bengkah, sebengkah nya buah pisang disalai whole enggau sebengkah agi nya pisang diputung nipis-nipis baka kerupuk. Mayuh macam snacks ba Indonesia, tauka cemilan ko sida ya.

Eh, udah laun. Aku tinduk dulu, enda alah ditinggal bas pulai ke Jogja pegila!

Cenat Cenut

Sudah lama saya tersiksaaa
Band yang saya paling tak tahan buat masa ini selain JBieb.
Saat pertama, saya macam "Aaah, K-pop wannabes".
Saat ketiga puluh, saya mulai pergi "Ugh. Geli." dan saya terus berambus dari website berkenaan.

Mungkinkah disebabkan opening notesnya yang mengingatkan saya kepada lagu Bayi oleh JBieb?

Mungkinkah disebabkan ekspresi wajah mereka yang menyebabkan tangan saya gatal untuk memberi one good smack?

Mungkinkah kerana gerak tari mereka yang menyebabkan saya geli geleman?

Mungkinkah sebab semua orang pergi "You know me so weeeeeeeeeeeelllllll" (irritates me to no end)

Mungkinkah kerana mereka sudah ada sinetron sendiri yang bertajuk "Cinta Cenat Cenut" yang astagaaaa, kenapa semua orang nak tengok??

Atau..

Mungkinkah kerana sekarang saya sendiri pergi "Mengapa hatiku cenat cenut tiap ada kamooooo..."

Dan..

Mungkinkah kerana sekarang saya dapat menonton seluruh video tersebut tanpa pengsan sebab geli sehingga tak cukup oksigen??

Saritu kami ngagai Posyandu baru, ngabas bala lansia dia. Bala ini-ini benung sesais maya kami datai. Bisi indai tuai siko ngulu ke sida ya.

Rindu meda bala urang tuai sesais. Ni ke udah buya bungkuk, agi meh enggau urang. Nya aku ngenang, kitai ba Malaysia bisi enda program baka tu neh? (Mar utai, laban ke belajar ditu utai ke ditemu sistim Indonesia magang, nadai entu nemu sistim kitai din) Program endur kitai turun ke masyarakat ari ke nganti sida ya ngagai kitai. Program endur bala ti tuai-tuai begempuru, betimbang ke berat badan, ngukur tekanan darah, berubat enti bisi sakit, belajar senentang penyakit tuai. Kuat amai sense of community sida ya ditu. Baka posyandu lansia ke dilawak kami kemari, ko kepala bala sida lansia:

"Bulan nyin kemari 52 iko kami sebuat, tang 2 iko udah nadai, ninggal ka kami 50 iko aja, Ngarap ke bulan baru kami agi 50 iko ditu"

Tadi aku bisi meresa ini siko, 64 taun umur iya kenu ko ya, tang peda aku baka ke tuai agi. Sebana ke diri pedis pala patung tudah, lalu suah pedis perut. Pedis endar endu, tusah amat bai bejalai. Nyau ngena tungkat aku. Bala anak aku nadai ditu, ko ya. Ba Arab magang. Aku diau enggau bala uchu aku. Ditanya aku, kemaya bala anak nuan bisi pulai deh ini? Enda nemu, tak nadai rita, ko ya. Nya aku ngemata ke iya bejalai pulai kediri, iya ga bungkuk, ngena tungkat, ngelaban panas agi. Sigi bakanya urang ditu, ko dr H. Bala anak sida mayuh gawa ke luar negeri, sida ya tinggal ditu ngibun bala uchu. Kasih aku meda ini nya.

Hi y’all! Diatu aku ba Bantarsari, Cilacap enggau 4 iko kaban aku bukai for our K3M (Kuliah Kerja Kesehatan Masyarakat). Kami dianjung urang ngagai kampung-kampung, endur kami pritis nyadi manang. :p Cukup jai jalai ba Jateng ditu, asai ke nunggang kuda. Iya ga urang ke driba/mai muto ditu gila. Overtake macam tidak ada orang punya bisnes. Udahla kami diharuskan ngena muto ditu. Sometimes I just can’t watch maya nepan muto, laban kelalu takut meda penyemak urang ditu driba. Bala ke driba lori cukup enda mereti, enda nemu kasih ke urang ti ngena muto.

The view along the way is amazing though. Paddy fields stretch out as far as the eyes can see. Ni ke udah kuning, agi ijau. Meda urang bumai, numbuk, nyembui padi. There’s no piece of land left uncultivated. I've never been so acquainted with paddy like i am now. haha.

Aku diatu benung oncall kediri ba UGD (uu-gay-day)/ unit gawat darurat. Nadai lutor supervise tauka meda enti pengawa aku betul tauka enda. Basically, I take history, check and prescribe by myself. Taja pen ati takut tang dipajak ka dia meh, laban kami sigi ditikau urang ke ai, sema jaku. Either you sink or swim. Iya ga pasien mayuh anak mit, aku bedau tama stase anak. Pahaiiii! Nasit mayuh anak mit enggau common cold aja. Ari enam kemari aku bisi nyait kaki aki urang. It makes me miss stase bedah.

Kami diau enggau Pak Nur, apai tuai driba ambulance puskesmas (pusat kesehatan masyarakat). Our room is a lime green box, with a narrow window that if we open, the mbah (ini) will tell us not to, because the mosquitoes will come in. Kami mandi ngena ai telaga, tang ai iya kuning taja pen udah ditapis. I don’t know where the toilet pipes drain to and I think it’s better not to know. The general rule of thumb is that jarak aman between telaga enggau tempat pembuangan limbah is 10m, but not everyone can afford that.

Ba belakang rumah (2m away from the toilet) bisi pegung endur Pak Nur nupi lele (keli), enggau ikan patin. (Could it be that the toilet pipes drain here?) Maya tinduk malam-malam ulih ninga bunyi kereta api, rail track nya seberai jalai aja. Makai kami meruan ditu. Pagi-pagi dipanduk ka Ibu Nur asi/asi guring enggau sayur and lauk. Makai tengah ari kadang-kadang ikan, undang, manuk, sayur nangka masak lemak, kangkung, karedok (sayur matak enggau kuah kacang), kupat tahu (ketupat, tahu enggau kuah kacang). Laban ke diau ba menua Jawa bala sida tempe, tahu, sambal enggau kerupuk sigi enda tau jauh. Sigi semampai disedia ka Ibu Nur setung kerupuk kami sebuat. Hihi! Aku udah jera makai pedas, enda tan amat perut diatu. Makai pedas mimit alu heartburn seari-ari enggau cirit. Diatu pen agi ngenat ke pedis perut T_T I probably need to fast for a few days.

Pagi-pagi kami bejalai kaki ngagai Puskesmas Bantarsari, enda datai lima minit. Sekeda urang ngagai puskesmas, sekeda ngagai Pustu (Puskesmas Pembantu). Tadi kami ngagai Posyandu Lansia (Pos Kesehatan Terpadu Lanjut Usia), endur bala aki-aki, ini-ini betemu setiap bulan kena berubat enggau ngecek tekanan darah. Enti ditanya kitai

“Pripun bu/pak/mbah, ada yang dikeluhkan boten?” Kati baka ibu/aya/ini/aki? Bisi penanggul?

“Enggih, enggih” Au, au.

“Demam, batuk, pilek, pegel-pegel boten?” Tabin, batuk, flu, pedis isi bisi enda?

‘Enggih, enggih”. Au, au.

Major communication breakdown laa.

Urang ditu mucau enti kitai meri ubat mimit aja. Minimum mesti 3 bansa ubat diberi, taja pen urang nya datai laban enda nyamai isi aja. Kawan aku ti meri ubat 2 bansa aja dianu pasien laban kelalu mimit. Kati nya deh? Kati ka meri ubat enti enda beguna? Setiap ISPA (infeksi saluran pernapasan atas) diberi antibiotic magang taja nadai perlu. Bingung… bingung. Sigi enda semangka utai dipelajar enggau real life waii.

I dani early today to read up on my theory laban legi aku meresa pasien kena aku ujian ari enam tu legi. Kupi favourite maya tu old town white coffee ke hazelnut empu. Manis but it does the job of keeping me awake. Nescafe nadai bekau ba aku; udah ngirup tau tinduk baru. Lalu ngagatka asi girau laluh kemari.

Teringat aku maya ke agi pom 5 suba. Setiap malam mesti janji enggau mami tauka didi kena ngerak maya pagi. Tiap malam dianjung ke didi tauka mami kupi, kupi favourite maya nya kacip fatimah ke kaler pink nya. Dani pagi udah kena gerak digaga ke seduai iya kupi baru ga. Rindu aku belajar laban semangat ke study table ke dipilih aku empu lalu dilekat ke aku jaku peransang and my goals. Having a set goal certainly motivated me to work hard, it's something I forgot and need to relearn. My family was very supportive - still is and I am very thankful for that.

Mayuh utai diberi apai indai awakka meransang kitai belajar. Bup dibeli, handphone bisi ga, ka laptop dibeli ka laptop, makai cukup, gari meruan, ni belanja meda wayang, pansut huha-huha enggau kaban agi. Nadai kebuah kitai enda berjaya. Kadang-kadang kitai kelalu nyamai tauka leka laban bisi mayuh hiburan sampai kitau nyau lingut-lingut, enjoy belama-lama, enda belajar, pulai ke rumah utai ke ditemu sama enggau maya ninggal ke rumah suba, nadai utai diulih. Enda ngira apai indai ke bendar gawa ngambi ulih meri the best ka kitai.

Suba keran ka sekula ba sekul buding diatu neh. Tiap kali ka pulai gai Jogja emo belama. Pei!

Sarinya maya aku pulai sempat kami sebilik begambar. Lamak udah ka ber-family photo, last ya suba May taun kemari tang nadai Gabin. Kali tu semua bisi. Wheee!

Aku baru pulai ari Banjarnegara kemari, about 120km ari Jogja. Penyauh kami nya agi meh datai ujan abu. Pedis ati diri laban 2 kali nuci kerita 2 kali nya ga enggai nda kena abu. Nemu kita enti kitai nulis dalam abu (huh? as in "write on the ashes") ke ba kerita utai ke ditulis kitai alu lekat ba kerita? Nya meh kerita aku lekat enggau utai dicunteng bala anak mit ba Banjarnegara (Nike <3 Ane; Adi <3 Sinta). Iya ga enggai enda ba hood kerita, enda ulih dikelalai. Heiiiii nya baru aku nemu pengawa bala anak mit nya pagi-pagi nutu kerita aku. Aku enda ga meda utai dicunteng sida laban setiap ari bisi fresh layer of abu on my car.

Nya ga pemerinsa dianjung ke luar kota, kitai nadai nemu utai ti nyadi ba luar. Dani ku pagi tadi, pansut ari bilik lalu meda courtyard kami ba luar belang. My first thought was Dang! My car! laban aku nuci kerita kemari and it's a rare occurence i tell you. Jalai nyu belatak laban abu becampur enggau ai, it's almost like snow if not for the fart-y smell. Urang ba luar pan sama belang and it makes a good setting for Ash Wednesday because well, you get the idea. Hehe.

Life's been empty without patient contact. Radiology was all about X-rays and USGs and CTs, forensic was all about dead people (and almost all of them were motorcyclists!) and anesthesiology was super fun! Where in the world would a student get to inject anesthesia and intubate patients if not here?!

Now i'm in stase bedah and pegila aku dianjung urang ke Banjarnegara. It's 4 hours away by car and i just hope we get there safe and sound!

You gave me quite a scare last night because i usually sleep through your shakes and quakes but last night you woke me up so i thought it must be quite bad. And i ran to the middle of the room squatting like an idiot wondering whether i should run out. is it safe to do so? or should i just hide under the table? wait, can i fit under the table??

and then i was up the next 2 hours because aku takoot tinduk.

I came up with a contingency plan though so that's good:

In the event of an earthquake, i shall hide under my desk, which shall have the following: energy bars, water, torchlight, hanky.

I can't believe im wishing that i took up engineering instead padahal i benci physics to the maxx!

This is a journey of thousands of miles and there's no end in sight. Saya macam menyesal sedikit. Macam lebih baik jadi dentist. Ke lebih baik jadi pharmacist. Kalau ambil engineering sekarang mesti sudah graduate dan sudah kerja pun. Tetapi impian tetap nak jadi chef (alahai cita-citaku).

Fakta:
Kalau jadi doktor, duit mesti sudah cukup untuk belanja education 10 tahun ke depan atau lebih. Lebihbaik kalau lebih.
Kalau jadi doktor, 5 tahun ke depan orang sudah kerja kamu masih belajar.
5 tahun ke depan lagi, orang sudah naik mobil, kamu masih jadi residen naik sepeda motor kapcai (worst case scenario)
Kalau jadi doktor, mesti sedia bayar hutang education untuk jangka masa panjang (macam saya hutang hidup 10 tahun)
Kalau jadi doktor, maybe for now job security masih okay tapi kalau ingat nak kaya, ptuih. Better u buka bisnes sendiri.
Kalau jadi doktor, baik lupakan saja impian nak buat bekal untuk anak bawak ke sekolah.

Setelah setiap perangkat semuanya malah jadi lebih susah, bukan lebih gampang yaaa. Apa kau ingat sudah selesai MD/MBBS sudah boleh goyang kaki tralala? Heh, kalau nak hidup sedia lah kau belajar ~10 tahun lagi = more hutang. Postgraduate ed = another headache.

Getting into this business is not so cool, okay. It's not 'all that'. I don't know how to make you see what i see, to knock sense into your head so that you know what you're really getting yourself into when you choose this road because expectations and assumptions are not the same as reality. You have to be really really well informed of what lays ahead; sure you know it's not going to be easy but do you know how not-easy it is? And i dont wanna hear no cliches like "nothing in life worth having is easy" cos for once im not buying it.

Oh you may scoff and think i'm such a wuss because im all freaked out/complaining and oh boy am i so freaking out because once they took off my rose tinted glasses the big picture knocked the breath out of me.

And God, I need my drive back please. It's been missing the past one year or so. There, i said it.

But let's not dwell on the depressing thingies and reflect on this short story which the chief radiologist told us this morning when we were discussing the merits of baby-making during residency (He asked his son, who is a resident to beranak ASAP but his son told him that work/time/money as in to ngidup ke bala anak doesn't permit it) And he told us this parable:

Bayangkanlah kalau anda orang miskin yang benar-benar miskin. Jiranmu seorang kaya raya dan dia membantumu, dia kasikan ke kamu 3 ekor kambing untuk kamu pelihara dan ternak, kemudian untungnya dibahagikan dua sama dia. Nama ba seluruh Malaysia tu urang Bintulu aja kah agi bekena ka sida tung gas? Aku iran laban sekayu-kayu rumah tu ditu (indu KL, indu JB, indu Alor Setar, indu Kuching 3 iko) semua enda nemu nukar tung gas. Nyu indu Bintulu tu ga starring nukar tung gas belamo-lamo.

Enda agi sida apai indai iya ngasuh ngena motosikal udah tu. Udah iya ke kena discharge urang ditu iya diau enggau kami ngambi bisi urang nyaga, ngemata, nupi iya. Enti dianjung diau ba rumah bujang din nadai urang ngibun iya. Bulih endar iya dimanja ke kami ditu. Hihi! Taja kami graduate, kami bedau abis belajar, baru abis theory years aja. Nyelai ga sistem urang ditu. Udah abis clinical rotation ila nya baru kami oath taking.

Oh, and tu first time aku ulih pulai Gawai since so long. Kasih ke apai indai nadai anak, kasih ke kakak nadai madi. :p

Dear God,

Do You remember about 2 years ago I was so mad at You that I refused to speak to you? I went on doggedly being mad at You for a year until I realized that I missed You and that I didn't want to walk without You anymore.

Well God, this time I am mad again. And I refused to speak to You for a few days. Like a sulking child I pushed You away when I knew deep in my heart that I could go to You for comfort. But why should I? You could have saved me from this hurt. You are God who makes all things possible, I thought and yes, I may be unworthy but I trusted You to have my back.

Of course God, people always say it's because You know what's best for me and that You have something else planned for me. I feel like it's something said just to make me feel better. I want to believe that You have a better plan for me but Lord, when I think about all the possible ways things could play out, I really cannot see how this is best for me. I also thought, God, what's the point of praying for something I want when in the end I'm only getting what You think is best for me?

Then, I started thinking of my parents. Of how, when I was younger, I used to sulk when they stopped me from doing something I wanted to do or when they didn't get me something I thought I absolutely must have (ie PlayDoh!). I thought that they were mean and not understanding. I couldn't comprehend it then, but now I see that yes, they had their reasons and were acting in my best interest. Bapak ibu udah misterius, jangankan lagi Tuhan yang emangnya notorious for working in mysterious ways.

So God, I concluded that the only reason I am angry with You is because I didn't get my way.

Tu aku benong ba Tune Hotel KL benong nganti transit ngagai Yogya pegila. Apai enda ngasoh aku meli Wifi access tang aku laban ke aku beli aku aja. Enda berentak asai enti berinternet ba baruh din, 30 minit aja tau.

Ari taun 2005 aku berengkah ninggal ke rumah, tang asai maya ninggal ke rumah nadai kala berubah. Berat ati. Tusah ati. Lelengau. Semua bisi. Enti enda malu ke urang udah lama ai mata labuh. Hehe.

Ngarap ke urang tua ba rumah nya nyaga diri manah-manah. Apai ke enda tau makai protein, nemu nemu meh nagang diri. Badu ngenang bala cencaluk, lelabi, belacan goreng agi. Tetapka ari siti kena dik "cheat day", maya dik ulih makai bala forbidden food nya, udah nya ari bukai berpenti. Aku nyukong amat enti duai dik mami nyadi vegetarian. Tang enti nyadi vegetarian, protein intake pen sama ga mesti dikemata ka, enggau other nutrients ke nadai ba sida sayur. Tanya ngau dietitian dik nemu ya nerang ke nya.

Udah ku nulung mami ngerituk blog iya kemari nyau tegerak ga ati aku ka ngerituk enggi diri empu. Rindu meda anak manuk tisi nya.

Bejaku pasal anak manuk, depan rumah kami bisi sarang burung. Minggu nyin kemari aku nilik sarang iya peda ku bisi 4 igi kini telu nya. Minggu tu udah dinga ku bekeciap bala anak burung. Kemari aku nilik baru meda 4 iti pala burung nukang ke nyawa minta sapi. Geram aku meda. :D Tilik aku lemai nyuka 2 iko aja tinggal, nya pen udah mati :( Nama kebuah kini? Kini ke 2 iko agi baby nya? Kasih ku meda.

Tu gambar kami semadi benong cuti ngagai Phuket empai lama tu tadi. Rindu mat begulai! Tang enda tau kelalu lama, enggai ke bekeramak! Haha!

Soundsation

You know, one of the cooooolest thing about being in Jogja is you get to meet an SO7 band member by stepping into a random McD or playing futsal :D

The music scene here is outrageous! People sing on the streets, at traffic lights, in warong(s) and lesehan(s) and on balmy evenings, you get to hear the sweet sound of voices harmonizing over some kind of taboh and finger plucking on campus grounds. And the array of songs they play in church... Aaah!! Sigh. I love love love music.

We get a lot of concerts of various genres in campus and unlike in Bintulu, artists actually come to Jogja a lot :p This past week I've been mulling on whether or not to go for this year's Soundsation. I've gotten myself hooked on a local band recently and to actually watch them perform live! GASP!

But...

so many cases I haven't covered! you need a break from the books

Two Ends of the Spectrum

Not so long ago I learnt that truly, you cannot make everyone like you; for even the nicest of people are disliked. It was hard to let go of that ideal but when life deals you a harsh blow, sometimes it's easier to be cynical and realistic rather than to hold on to that.

I also thought that I knew what dr jekyll and mr hyde was like til you came along and showed me otherwise.I cannot even begin to comprehend how on Saturday we can sit together and have a nice, cozy meal ; on Sunday you spit words so malicious, so venomous, so full of vitriol on the very people you laughed with over dinner and yet on Monday you act like nothing ever happened and we're back to being best friends. I don't know how, after that declaration of hatred, you expect us to go running to you with wagging tails or to want to be with you at all.

The Sweet One is a well of grace and kindness, always trying to do the right thing. She will always be kind, but even wells run dry if you keep on taking and never giving back. I understand you guys go way back and she wants to keep your friendship, but is a friendship worth keeping if the only fruits are tears and hatred? The Weary One is tired of being pushed around and is giving up. As for me, you know I don't tolerate bullshit.

Tang agi bisi Comprehensive OSCE to look forward to, tauka PBBKK (pay-bay-bay-ka-ka) ko urang ditu. I have no idea what PBB stands for but KK stands for "Kompetensi Klinis".

Ko jaku nda pulai raya cina tu ngambi ke ulih belajar kaw-kaw. Au, ila meh meda udah 3 minggu. Asai sepi aku maya tu baka enda tan aja enti enda pulai, ka bara nesal nulak offer Mami ti ngumpan aku pulai enggau family holiday. Mami please don't tempt me, I'm trying my best to enda bibek here :P

Sarinya kami dibai urang field trip ngagai Semarang. Manah menua nya, jauh besai enggau maju agi ari Jogja koh. Tuju kin ke endar ya meda cara urang nyaga pengerai ba exit/entry point. Lembau wai... Diajar urang kati ka ngelala jenis cit, kati nyugu cit ngambi ngulih ke kutu iya.. Aku ngasai ke diri tak ngenan ke seput nangi ke fleas(kutu?) tak inggap ba lubang idung. Haha. Pama gik ga maya urang nunjukka cara ngecek pemeresi ai enggau utai dempa.

Nadai ga entu utai ulih ari pejalai nya. Urang bejaku nda didinga jelas laban ngena loud-hailer aja. Nganjung bontot pedis aja duduk ba bas bejam-jam.

The day i feel like being long-winded

Currently, I am so hungry that I'm having hallucinations of roti canai. I can smell it, see it and almost taste it. The smell of ghee, the crackle of crisp, well-made roti canai, and the texture of the ikan bilis in the sambal. Aaah. But nein, ze madamoiselle is on a self-imposed calorie controlled diet. The dearly beloved coffee with cream and sugar has sadly ended up on pudgy parts that needn't be pudgier. And i distinctly remember promising myself that I'd be fit and healthy by my second decade of life... half a decade ago. Well guess what, I'm gonna be 20 something this year and if i don't start now i never will.

May I just say that it takes a lot of willpower not to guzzle white coffee like it's water and not to stuff my face with twisties and snekku keropok. They came for me in the mail from the beautiful family =) My schmexercise routine needs a lot of tweaking. It's kinda hard to do jumping jacks unobtrusively when all that separates my room from the next room is just a thin piece of wood.

On a side note, I miss home and not knowing when I can go back is depressing.

Ironically, now that my clinical days are getting nearer I'm dreading it to the very core when it was the very thought of doing clinical thingamajig-gies ( i pricked someone with a needle! or hey, blood! COOL! ) that made my heart skip a beat a few years ago or so.

Hm. Well, okay, those things still excite me. What doesn't is the prospect of having to wait around for a good portion of my lifespan. Today I spent a good 3 hours waiting for and watching 3 different specialists like a hawk, lest they disappear from my sight. It's so hard to get hold of this species; they either disappear from the face of the earth when you really really really need them or in my case, they tell you to wait and then show up 3 hours later. Take it from me, when you do find them, you should just latch onto them and don't let go until you get what you want. Gimme gimme gimme your signatures!!

Yes, you. The one in the red number and golden heels to match. There you sit looking as lovely as a rose, the curve of your lips showing a suggestion of a smile; looking to the world like all is well, yet your eyes betray what's inside.

I know for a fact that nothing I say can make you feel better. How can it be when the one you've been building your past, present and future around says that the fire has died out?

I wish I could make you see that things will get better and that happiness does not depend on a man but on yourself. The day will come when you can think of him and not hurt. As Bonnie Tyler said, "time mends a broken heart".

In the meantime let's eat chocolates, paint our nails the colours of the rainbow and braid each other's hair. Let's have a pillow fight, watch movies, have a cuppa and talk the night away. We'll go out for night drives and breathe in polluted Jogja air, eat nano-nano flavoured corn and indulge in late night McDs.

It was only fitting that we ended our journey with London, the setting of my treacle pudding dreams. I met up with my long lost godbrother :p, Carine met up with her friend and my, what a blast we had.

We so wanted to watch a musical but in the end we didn't for reasons i cannot now remember.

We so wanted to go to Borough market to pamper our tummies but we were to leave the day before it opened.

I so wanted to go to Portobello market to grab me some pretty things that i can keep in a drawer, together with my other pretty but useless things. :) But we didn't have the chance to do so. :(

We did, however giggle with glee at the Trafalgar Square, figuring out which mode on our cameras could best capture our time there. We were awestruck by the absolutely breathtaking Big Ben at night,, illuminated by hundreds of little lights. The Victoria and Albert Museum, the Science Museum and the Tower of London were so much fun! St Paul's Cathedral is magnificent and the infamous London Bridge is... well... just a bridge.

Oh and may i just say that i love the English's dry wit! :)

Due to the very awesome companions, leaving London was ever so hard. When we heard that our flight to Singapore was overbooked, we were hopeful that we would be among the unlucky few that would have to stay back for another night and be compensated for it. Of course, as it happened, we were the lucky ones who managed to get seats on the flight. *Grumbles grumbles*.

Those brilliant people we met, the fun and wonderful things we did that summer seem so far away from our current world of forensic and emergency medicine (which i have to admit is not all that bad!)

These memories of London, they will always make me smile. :)

Sigh. sigh. sigh. Where to start?
Prague so cantiklah! I loved every bit of it!

Dalam train on the way ngagai Prague. Love: Reminds me of Mr Bean. Peeve: Angat, angat, angat! Nadai air conditioning and laban benung summer nya alai angat endar. Peiiii, nasit sepiak endur aku bisi kena puput ribut. Carine ke duduk nunga aku nadai kena puput angin. Bendar mat tudah bepeluh.

Maya kami datai udah kira-kira pukul 8 malam. Nadai utai ke dianjung bejalai, kaki sama pedis, "the bones in my feet don't feel aligned!" . Ari ga ujan, nasit bisi tetemu ka kedai makai enda jauh ari hostel. Kami diau ba area Nove Mesto tauka New Town.

Pagi ari siti nya baru berengkah bejalai. Kami enggau urang walking tour ti mula aba Wenceslas Square. Dia bisi digaga ke urang shrine kena ngingat ke dua iko students ti nunu diri laban protes ka komunis.

Tu Grand Hotel Europa, stail art-nouveau. Restaurant dalam nya endur urang filming Mission Impossible katanya...

Udah nya kami bejalai ngagai Church of Our Lady of the Snows....

And my word, manah amat gerija ba Prague! When you think ah, tu gerija paling manah kala peda aku! and then off you go to the next church and BAM! TU gerija paling manah! and it goes on and on and well, you get the picture. Pelaba aku around 5-8 gerija kini dipeda kami. Nyau enda ingat aku bagi ya.

Nah, tu aba the Church of Our Lady Victorious ba area Mala Strana. Gerija tu ti nyimpan patung Infant Jesus of Prague. Bala kita ke bisi bup Pieta and bisi maca iya, tentu nemu cerita patung tu. Rindu endar urang ke patung tu, petition enggau jako terima kasih datai ari serata dunya. Baju patung tu bisi ke diberi bala royalties, urang China, urang Phillipines and etc. Sayau enda entu peda dalam gambar.

Bisi 2 iti gereja St Nicholas dia, siti dipegai bala Katolik, siti da agi dipegai bala Protestants. Gamal building iya identical, dalam aja lain. Sama-sama bajik!

Tu ba Old Town Square. 2 iti tower ke ba belakang nya is the Church of Our Lady before Tyn.

Gereja paling manah (ba akulah) ianya St Vitus Cathedral ba Prague Castle. So very the big :p and majestic! Ba tisi-tisi iya bisi chapel mit-mit for different saints and then mayuh tomb bala raja Bohemia kelia. Prague Castle nya supposedly ancient castle ti paling besai ba dunya. Tang bayar tama ngasuh nelan liur dulu. Audio guide pen sama mar!

St Vitus' Cathedral. Seee?? So big and so hard to take a picture of!! Chapel paling manah dalam nya is St Wenceslas' Chapel.

Enda tau enda begambar enggau pak guard. Hahah!

Ba 2 iti jendela mit di atas nya bisi procession of the 12 apostles, udah nya patung skeleton ngangguk ke pala (madah ka it's time) enggau 3 iti patung ke bukai ngiling ke pala (bedau, bedau). Lucu meda bala tuai biak sama-sama nganti ba mua jam nya. Padahal the show was a minute or less!

Municipal House. Ba seberai iya bisi urang promote opera shows. Ka meda Don Giovanni ko jaku, tang the show was scheduled on the day we were to leave T_T

Nurun nuju Mala Strana. Cantik. Le sigh.

Kami pulai Budapest ngena coach, laban udah jera. Cheaper, air-conditioned, complimentary coffee/tea/hot chocolate, in-coach movie. Mayuh sunflower farms along the way. So cheerful! :) :) :)

Anto enggau Giulia (i love that name!) manduk ke kami carbonara on the last night. They were mystified because everyone, and i mean everyone seemed to think that carbonara is the "one with the white sauce".

"There is no white sauce in carbonara! It's just bacon and egg." ko Giulia.
Nah, the Italian has spoken.

Eva enggau Yeyo, the Spanish couple who lovingly fed us chorizo, lomo and calimocho. They even sent us home with ngut chorizo! Sigh. Hearts.

Bratislava, Slovakia

Ahoj!

Bratislava to me is so quaint, compact and cute in size that you just want to picit-picit the kuyuk! It was also a blessed relief from the hefty price tags of Vienna.

Kami datai ba Bratislava kira-kira pukul 3 lemai, makai tengari dulu, and still managed to cover most of the attractions that evening itself. Tang kami enda tama, laban most of them were closed by then. Meda ari luar aja lah.

Hostel owner enggau guide book kami sama-sama recommend Slovak Pub enti ka makai traditional Slovak food. So kia meh kami duai iya nganjong diri makai. Kalau di Vienna kita makan wiener schnitzel, di Bratislava kitai makai bryndzove halusky.

Udah aku meda translation iya madah ke nya dumpling alu enda aku ngudar, udah jera ba Budapest. Kumbai aku baka dumpling Cina, meda nya tak baka tekang tepung mit-mit, asai pasta. Sambi-sambi, udah ga sigi ukai bansa ke rajin berpakai pasta! Keruan tak makai beef aja pengujung iya. Ba sakai.

Go here enti ka meda tapestries. The Hall of Mirrors is just a room with mirrors. I think meda ari luar aja udah cukup. Bayar tama 2Euros, free entrance for students :D

Bratislava's Old Town.

Ba area old town mayuh cafes. Like really a lot a lot. So many to choose from until tak tahu where to eat kind. Mayuh English people juga. Kin kia bejalai ninga urang bejaku with English accent. Nda baka Budapest. Very jarang bertemu enggau English speaking people. It wouldn't be surprising to hear a bit of Hungarian too. After all, Bratislava used to be a part of Hungary. My word, Hungary used to be soooo huge!

Ba Vienna pula mayuh urang Arab.

One of the many brass plates ti nanda ke pathway ti dikena bala raja maya coronation procession kelia. They lead to St Martin's Cathedral. Gerija tu nadai entu special gamal tang history iya ke grand. 11 rulers and 8 of their consorts were crowned here! Tama treasury pen free! :D Lalala suka hati!

I think, i think, i think gerija tu ke bisi nyimpan a piece of kayu ti bisi hand print antu. The story went a bit like this: A spirit appeared to someone and asked that a church be built. Lotsa random art pieces as you walk. Enti bejalai sebelah alleys Bratislava there's something about the buildings and the pathways that makes you feel as if nuan benung ba menua ti beperang. And when you're there it's like you've been transported to the past. It's a magical feeling :)

Say hello to Rubberneck tauka Cumil! Patung tu suah tingkil pala laban dilantak kerita. So, digaga ke urang sign board "Man at work". But you can't see it here.

Slovak National Museum.

We were there for a day so we didn't get to go to Devin Castle, the Presidential Palace, the Blue Church and mayuh la utai bukai. We also didn't get to go to Bratislava Castle but that's okay laban maya nya benong reconstruction so it was closed :(

And ooh oooh, if you have money to spare do go from Bratislava to Budapest along the Danube on a hydrofoil. Available only in summer! Aku sigi rindu enti pasal nepan bot/perau/water vessel tu laban Dijih enggau Niah datai jalai!

Bratislava may not be a heavyweight like Vienna but it certainly has its charm. :)

Bulan 7 tu kemari, laban penyiru apai indai, :) ,aku dianjung urang ngagai Budapest kena clinical exchange. Aku bulih general surgery, which i was kind of happy with laban aku sigi bisi minat ntang nya. Tang ke endar iya aku minat agi geriatrics (sakit urang tuai). Sayau nadai geriatrics department dioffer sida iya.

Anyhuu, Carine and I took the last week of attachment to travel around. Ari Budapest kami ngena bas ngagai Vienna, tauka Wien.

Vienna is stunning! (Mulut start bepupuk baru) Urang ke artsy-fartsy bulih endar enti kitu laban mayuh amat art musems sida iya dia. Kami enda tama, laban ukai bansa ke nemu appreciate art. Tambah pan bayar tama buya mar. Meda ari luar pama meh.

Tu ba Museums Quartiers. Tempat ambil gambar sajaaa... Tidak mau saya bayar banyak sangat untuk tengok paintings saja.

Ari MQ kami bejalai nuju Maria-Theresian-Platz. Ba kiba kanan square tu bisi 2 iti identical buildings, siti Kunsthistoriches Museum, siti agi Naturhistoriches Museum. Brilliant architecture, no?

Udah nya bejalai agi ngagai Hofburg Imperial Palace. The smell reminds me a lot of Bromo laban dia urang sama mai horse carriages. Ditu pan kami meda ari luar aja. Kemahalan, dong!

Ari dia kami duai iya rembus ngagai St Stephen's Cathedral. And again, ari luar enda manah digambar laban benung restoration maya nya. Diagag urang gothic-romanesque style. I still prefer Matthias Church ba Budapest.

Udah lelak bejalai kami ngambi tram lumor 2, ti ngemai kami ngelingi Ringstrasse, where we could catch glimpses of the Opera House, Burgtheater, the Rathaus (Town Hall), Parliament and lots!

Ari kedua we went to Schloss Schonbrunn. It's the *Habsburgs' summer palace and it's gorgeous! Sayau enda ulih ngambi gambar di dalam palace nya. Ba gardens aja ulih begambar. Kira-kira 4 jam kami duai Carine dia pa pemesai endur nya.

Ko jaku kami duai ya ka meda opera show maya ba Vienna, tang nadai shows laban bala pelakun benung summer break. Asa ati. Tang kami ampit enggau meda classical music concert on our last night in Vienna! Normal price iya around 50 Euros but we got our tickets for 25 Euros! Front seats lagi! :D

Our first lunch ba Centimetre Cafe. Ungkup besai amat, siti pinggai dikunsi kami duai iya!

McDonalds, cheapest breakfast in town. Enda ibuh mayuh macam endur kita breakfast, ko hostel owner. Every cafe offers the same thing just that McD offers it at a cheaper price. :D We like!

Central Market tauka Nagycsarnok (nyah, nda merinsa nyebut utai mensa nya?). Ditu endur urang nyual bala sida buah, sayur, arak, daging, paprika (nda tau nadai!). Ba lantai atas endur sida ya bejual ka souvenirs. Kami seduai Carine sama suckers, ama meda souvenir shop alu besinar-sinar mata. This is prolly the best place (read : cheapest) to get souvenirs in Budapest.

Ba belakang nya Liberty Bridge, tauka Szabadsag Hid. Mayuh jambatan ba Budapest laban bisi Danube River running through the Buda and the Pest side. Aku paling rindu meda Szechenyi Chain Bridge. Lawa! Tang nadai gambar iya. :(

Tu ba Szechenyi Baths. Nadai utai kemalu ditu. Biak, tuai, surgical scars, keriput, boroi semua dibantai ke magang. Aku malu mula-mula ujung-ujung nyau enda meh malu. Mayuh baths bukai ba Budapest. Gellert bath terkenal agi, tang mayuh gik urang tuai (tu nampung jaku urang) ba Szechenyi mayuh gik urang biak (again, jaku tampung tu). Bayar masuk enggau ngena locker is 3000Forints, enti kurang ari 2 jam or something (enda ingat aku), you get back 300Forints. Rindang diri ga dalam nya. Mayuh macam pool, bisi ka celap up to 16 degrees celcius, bisi ke angat up to 48 degrees celcius. Bisi siti section diengkah sida iya tekang ais kena berunsut. I thought that was cool (in every sense of the word) but I couldn't feel my hands and feet after a few seconds!

What else can I say, munyi ko ribai, Budapest is simply wonderful (nyau bepupuk mulut muji) and there are so many things to see and do there. Language barrier aja meh problem, laban urang dia enda entu bejaku English. Most of the time we just resort to sign languages :D

Means 'hi' in Hungarian. Or bye. I'm not sure. The language is very very very confusing. And there's a lot of different dots and comas or whatevers on top of the vowels and it takes forever to compute how to read it in your head and after you're done, you don't even know what you're reading!

The operating theatre has been nothing short of fab. It almost feels like... like home. Says a lot about one when one feels at home in a cold sterile room with sharp metal tools. Haha.

In 3 short days, I've seen more naked people than I care to see. And being an orderly looks like fun, so does being an anaesthesiologist (definition of fun: you don't get to stand for hours and hours and hours AND you get to watch the surgery at close range). Or...or.. I could be the person that hands out the surgical tools. Hmm.. hmm.. I should rethink my direction. Amat kering orderly ditu. They easily carry patients weighing at least 100kg (some) to and from the operating table.

Udah aku nyepi local goulash. Urang bukai seem to really really like it tang ba aku nothing special. Engka tastebuds aku udah mati kasak ke salt and sambal O.D. Tiap hari saya nurun clerkship nyium bau pastry and kupi. Bendar ngenat ke diri ngambi nda makai. Enggai nyadi nda kuntrul, baju ke bisi diatu majak sendat. Nda alah kitai!

Budapest is a really nice city. There's something new to see everyday. We've been going out every night since we came here except for the nights when our feet ached too much to walk. Transportation's easy and uncomplicated, more or less like what they have in KL, but better and at more frequent intervals. Carine and I bought monthly student passes that allows unlimited travel on every public transportation so it's kind of cheap to go around.

Dua tiga ari tu aku udu bekenang ka maya kami suah pulai ngagai Dijih enggau Niah suba.

Aku lelengau ke pagi-pagi, maya ari agi petang. Iya ke mit agi tegaring-garing tinduk sebelah bilik. Sida ke tuai udah angkat bekena ke api pelita, bepanduk ke ai, ngaga sida kupi sida teh, enggau makai ruti tauka laluh lauk demalam. I used to lie down with my eyes closed tang pending ninga ke randau urang tuai. Mayuh cerita urang tuai, rindu ninga.

Ama udah maya ka mandi, kin nurun ngagai sungai. Bejam-jam berendam, bemain, betundi. Nyau ulih urang ngangau nya baru pulai. Enti nitih ke ati sigi seari-ari main ba sungai. Diatu, hmph. Lembau ka nama ka tubuh dalam sungai. Pemadu ga enti nadai ai paip. Dia endur mandi dan yang sewaktu dengannya, dia ga endur mela babi.

Yes, i've been rather petty and whiny of late. No more of those thingies, on to brighter stuffs!

Kerita aku diambi urang, kena nyadi kerita kawin, kenu.

Bendar bala ngelagu kerita aku. Nyin, 2 iko car decorator, S enggau K. Skeptical aku mula-mula, eh, kada nemu sida laki tu ngemanah ke utai, ko ati aku din. Nya, peda kita asil jari urang bujang. Umbas ya ga pengelawa kerita dihias seduai iya. Kain ditusun manah ngelilit kerita, udah nya bisi flower petals diengkah dalam nya. I was impressed!

Mungkar meli 6 iti Sprite sida ya, kena digantung ba ujung kerita. Amat raya bala.. Nya meh maya nengah jalai Jogja nyau getuk-getuk sida tin nya aba belakang kerita. Ahahah.

Pengantin lelaki pemadu kurang asam! Datai aku enggau S ka ngambi iya meda iya tak ngena tancut kuntong enggau sports jacket. Akai dai! Manjong kami duai S, nama nuan tak cincai endar kami tu tak manah-manah begari ngena dress enggau shirt indah. Rayaa.. raya.. Bepungkar gari ga iya udah nya, Nyah, ngena baju sekul aku tau, ko iya. Barang ya dia meh, asal nda kapcai.

Tudah bini iya nadai peda utai, laban ke ngena purdah. Apu, amat bajik bini iya. Indu Indon+French. Suba nadai iya bekena ka utai bakanya, sekumbang ka udah kawin, ka berubah ko iya. Nya alai nyau betutup semua. Apai indai enggau laki iya empu enda setuju tang udah iya ka, nda alah tagang sida ya.

Anyhuuu kena ngaga cerita panjai pandak, puji Tuhan kek aku nyadi! Woooh, pedis belakang ngaga kek seari semalam!

I'm baking a wedding cake.

Hnnss hnss. Breathe, Erica, breathe!

Important life decisions ahead.

At first i was so bent on decorating the cake with marshmallow fondant but then decided that it's not worth it if people are just gonna peel it off cos not everybody likes marshmallow. Plus, my fondant experience is practically nil, kneading it will be torturous and dispensing Rp100,000 on 1kg of marshmallows is riddinkulously obscene.

In the interest of controlling financial flow (I still don't know whether the cake will be an 'out of the goodness of my heart' kind of thing or what) and curbing potential disasters, I've decided to decorate with pure white buttercream frosting and then topping it with sugared or fresh roses.

It's gonna be a chocolate cake, one i have been baking since my teen-age years. And imma fill it with rich chocolate frosting.

But ah, the planning is killing me! Cake bases, stacking and dowel rods, torting the cake, fridge space, transportation. Peh. I was planning to bake a simple & scrumptilicious cake but apparently i look like someone who can come up with a tiered wedding cake. Such ego-boosting nonsense!

But... but...

Such irresistible challenge...

Fuh, lama mat aku udah enda ngaga post menyana! Akai dai, nyau mansang sibuk diatu. Enti nda sibuk ngereja pengawa, sibuk meda American Idol ga. :P

Gua bingung, toh!

Diatu aku benong nulis research proposal. Tuju iya laban ka meda kaitan BMI, waist circumference, pengemuk enggau diabetes mellitus type 2. Sarinya aku bisi ngagai endocrinology polyclinic lalu bisi observe bala misi enggau Dr Hemi meri bala patients education pasal diabetes. The visit really opened my eyes.

Aku meda doktor nya berinteraksi enggau bala patients iya lain amat enggau chara doktor kitai bejaku enggau patients. Tak warm atmosphere iya, nyau baka ke berandau enggau kaban. Patients pen ketawa-ketawa, nda intimidated, nda malu nanya.. Aku berati ke ukai Dr Hemi aja manah communication skills, doktor bukai ditu pen sama baka nya. And when I say good, I mean GOOD. Nda kala meda doctor-patient interaction bakanya for the whole 2* years I've been a patient ba Malaysia.

Dia iya ngajar bala patient iya, nda ngawa enti kita enda nurun berat badan, ko iya. Asal meh kita nda niki berat. Pemakai pen ya enda entu strict nguntrul. Pengabis patient ka ngasi sebulan dua aja, ko iya. Udah nya alu pulai ngagai eating patterns sida ke lama.

Dr Hemi sigi selalu sebana ngagai kami, tusah ngatur urang ka nurun ke berat badan. Bertaun-taun bertemu enggau patients gemuk tang tusah ka ditulung. Diberi dik ubat, amat nurun, tang ama udah enda makai ubat nyau niki baru ga kilo. Surgery sama baka nya. Iya ka penting endar nya pengering ati patient nya empu, sama ada iya beramat ka nurun ka berat tauka enda. Too bad there're no drugs for that, neh.

Nya aku ka madah ngagai kita ke biak-biak. Enti ka nurun ka berat badan, manah nurun ke iya diatu. Enti udah tuai ila tusah agi, the odds are against you, munyi ko urang putih. Laban maya kitai udah tuai signal ari tubuh sigi ngasuh nyimpan lemak sema jako.

Aku heheeheheh.. nyebut aja nemu. Kediri empu buruk sesais. Motivation aku sesais meh laban ke enggai osteoporosis maya tuai ila. Kita indu maya udah menopause ila senang amat bulih osteoporosis. And broken hip bones just aren't cool. I intend to bejalai kin kia enggau regas ila. Nya alai it's good to stock up on calcium when you're in your 20's and exercise to build up bone density.

Thanks to a friend's excellent negotiating skills, the family agreed to settle for Rp 200k. PHEW! Maka aku lah panik ka luput da, i thought a side mirror would cost somewhere around Rp 1 mil plus and there goes my pimpin' money T.T. The car, ok. I'm talking about pimpin' the car.

So D, aku udah ngumpul another set of scratches on my side mirror.

Au, tu aku mantai ka cerita kami beganjoh suba. Ko jaku ka nganjung bala ke enda kala meda Candi Borobudur, tang mensia ke batang iya dianjung enda ga enggau. Hampeh!

Aku pen enda nemu nama utai ka disebut because it leaves me in awe. Batu-batu nya semua nadai bersimen, tak dilungguk ke urang on top of each other. Udah nya ba dinding iya bisi diukir gambar, nunjuk ke cerita Buddha. Dia kitai ngenang, naka pemendar urang kelia ngukir sereta mutung batu-batu nya ngambi iya cun amat betingkah enggau pangan diri.

Enti ka ngagai pantai ke manah (ai biru sereta ciru) ngagai Pantai Baron. Maya kami makai ba Baron suba nadai entu nyamai utai dipanduk urang dia. Ke endar iya Parang Tritis (PaRis kenu ko urang ditu) ke paling well known ditu tang locals madah iya overrated. Aku enda rindu ngagai Paris, bau tai kuda, laban mayuh urang nyewa kuda dia!

Endur kami makai: Rumah Makan Ibu Yanti. Betul-betul nunga laut! Nyamai benung makai disepu angin! Bendar nyawa bala makai, wai. Lengis utai. Aku nyau gelaga bai makai undang. Pei.. nyawa enda alah dilaban!

Udah makai, kami bejalai around beach nya. Pasir nya sigi pasir celum. Nda tau nyemberai laban ombak besai enggau kuat. Aku udah jerak bai kami ngagai Baron suba. Kelalu ka main ai, nyauka lemas diempas ombak. Eeee... enggai agi ku!

Uji kita meda tu:

UGM

Aku benung ba rumah maya nya, nadai nemu utai. Ribut nang sigi balat ari biasa, iya ga ujan.

Pulai Beni ari kampus lalu nusoi cerita agai bala kami. Sida ya maya nya benung ba microbio lab ba tingkat 4, benung ngaga eksperimen. Meda mua ari nyau celum, ribut inggar bepusin-pusin ngau ujan bangat. Bala burung ke terebai nyau simbing kasak ke ribut, bala daun ari pun kayu enggau atap sama tingkil ngau mayuh uras utai terebai ba langit. Pun kayu ngelingi kampus majak patah. Naka pengering puting beliung nya. Building ke endur sida iya nyau banjir kasak ke ujan.

Nyau sekudu bala lecturers enggau students rari. Sida Beni nyau panik meda urang belanda kin kia. Ka sida iya sama rari, meda bala pengajar ke ba lab te nadai engkebut. Calm and cool jak. "I thought I was going to die", ko Beni. Nya meh iya alu telipun indai iya, madah ke 'i love yous' and what not.

Nasit ga nadai nama-nama nyadi ngagai iya. Jalai mansa kampus kami kena tutup laban mayuh bala pun kayu enggau tiang tumbang. Nya meh Yogya traffic jam tadi. Tudah Beni nyau jempuk datai ba rumah laban ngelaban ujan on the way. Udah iya datai ba rumah nyau ngeleda ga ujan.

Bala kami nyau capuh ninga cerita. Nadai meh kami ke ba rumah nemu diri deh. Nasit ga puting beliung nya enda 'bejalai' ngagai Jakal. Nya kami melaba ka bala lecturers enggau students rari laban sida iya udah diajar ngambi anticipate utai baka tu. Manah ukai tanah bergegar. Kami sama bepadah ngagai pangan diri, ila enti meda urang rari, sama rari kitai. Nda alah nyadi mangsa bencana alam!

Enti meda footage ke diambi urang nya baka ke nda balat, neh. Tang nadai meh kitai nemu, laban ka nda sama dia.

Maya kami pulai meda wayang tadi udah dibuka baru jalai kampus. Dia kami meda sida signboards tingkil. Pun kayu bisi ke singit, bisi ke tumbang enggau iya ke gundul.

Aku enda puas ati ka diri nadai dia, nadai enggau urang meda utai tu nyadi. ISH!

Enti bala kita bisi tauka bidik bulih pitan baka aku, tau kita belandik ka penemu tu. Pitan nya baka semua' ba mata, tau nyadi laban hair follicle kitai kena sumbat enggau minyak/utai kamah tauka enti kena jangkit kuman ti semampai bisi ba kulit kitai.

Ngambi pitan jampat gerai, ambi ai suam (enti tan angat gik, beri angat gik) deh nya sepuh ka tuala beresi ba ai nya tadi. Engkah ba mata ke bisi pitan 3 ngagai 6 kali seari. Nitih ka pengerajin kita meh. Tuala kena mesti beresi, ngai ka nambah ka kuman ngagai pitan. Enggi aku tasak aku dulu tuala sebedau ngena. Enti ka nambah ka krim antibiotik, tau ga. Aku enggai kiroh, laban ngai bertemu ngau lutor.

Maya kena pitan enti ulih anang ngena contact lens tauka makeup. Penyakit tu enda ibuh bertemu enggau lutor, nemu badu kediri (enti enda dipicit). Tang enti seminggu lebih nyau enda gerai-gerai tang majak besai pitan, giga lutor.

This trick works like magic! Sekali suba maya aku ngasai ka bisi pitan ka tumbuh alu diengkah aku tuala angat. Ari siti nyau nadai gik. Diatu pen bisi tumbuh baru, tang alu bedau gerai endar. Picak sepiak mata. Nya aku ngena cermin mata ngagai kampus. Dikumbai urang jai gamal ga. Eh, ka ya. Ni alah bajik magang mensia.

P/S: Aku nadai lisin lutor.

Anyhuu, minggu nyin kemari aku berprujek ngaga tu:

TADAH! Endur ngantung bala antin. Enti ka manah agi kepit enggau photo frame netting nya. Enggi aku nda laban nda bulih photo frame ke diminat aku. Bilek kayu (ekonomi handalan, seh!) kena aku ngaga 'body' iya, ngambi netting nya enda terpelilai.

Suba disimpan aku dalam harware box tu, tang lelak ama ka begiga antin. Diatu nyau puang iya. Bala pin buk enggau studs jak dia.

Tu antin baru digaga aku. Gatal mat ati ka enggau urang begaga antin, nya aku enggau bebeli ka perengka kena ngaga iya. Bisi gamal sekeda ke enda entu menuku deh, tang laban rindu ngaga, sebarang aja pajak ke dia. Diatu ama ngagai kedai eksyen belama, ih, aku empu ulih ngaga antin tu!

Ngaga Antin

Ari 5 tu tadi we went to Malioboro, ka nyenguk kedai nyual accesories ba dia. Nah, tu utai ulih aku.

Mysterious, noh? Puteri would know what these things are, laban iya sigi rindu begaga utai bakatu :)

Aku meli crystal beads, tang enda tau mayuh. Nda terbayar ke iya aku legi. Umbas ya ga rega beads nya taja pan cimit ja beli aku.

Tadah! Utai digaga aku. Nothing spectacular, but I'm happy yer. Bisi urang very skeptical about my DIY project laban earrings stand ke ka digaga aku suba datai ke ari tu bedau tembu!

I was going for the grape-like effect with the clear beads tang nda manah digaga aku :( Oh well, I'll leave that for another day.

Salah endar. Agi gatal jari tu ka begaga antin. Sepatutnya aku meli mayuh gik buah antin nya. Aku enda meli mayuh nangi ka diri enda nemu kati ka nyambung iya legi. Nggi kawan aku siti paper bag endur iya engkah bala buah antin, hooks, connectors and what not. She's made a (small) boxful of earrings!

Got these as well. Siti ka diberi aku ngagai Ani. Ngai kiruh ngaga, nya aku meli ke ready made empu. Bisi bahan iya dia deh, tang dijual sida ya in bulk. Ni alah kitai meli leka marik dalam packet as big as kantung rice crackers Bin Bin nya. Bendar nembu ka iya!

Mum, i wasn't sure whether you'd like these stuffs so I didn't get you any. Bisi ga ati aku ka ngaga ke dik crystal bracelet tang.. Hehe. Like i said, can't afford it :P

Deh nya aku meli ayam ke dipekat Pacin. Songkok Jawa ko ya ngangau nya. Songkok Jawa meh ko aku maya nanya bala salesgirls. Nda ga sida iya nemu. Yang kayak topi itu, ko aku ga. In the end i found out that it's called blankon. Had to ask a guy where he got his blankon before i found this.

Tu size ke paling besai ke ulih temu aku. It has a very 'menyegakkan' effect. Ignore the tuyuk with the fake sunnies. Haha! Pacin, tu utai ke dipinta dik?

Penusah Belaki Nguai

Kuring mata indai meda title nya! :P Eksyeli aku ka komplen pasal penusah diau di Jogja aja. Ceh. Gila dramatik. Angat mat!! I quote, nyau mansau untak, unquote. Deh nya, suah amat ga blackout sekumbang aku dah pulai.

Anyhuu, pemadu bulak aku suba madah ke ka ngeruhka ai udah tembu peresa. Aku ba Bintulu for the last two weeks. Lelak kitak ninga aku pulai belama, hoh. Apa boleh buat, "semak" endar ga Pulau Jawa tu enggau Sarawak :P

Belajar driba: tiap kali lesson nda nemu nda mati injin, tang pas ga pra-test. Diatu ngelu mikir ka kemaya ka pulai ngambi JPJ test. Nyeh, suba urang ngansak blajar mai kereta, buruk.
Nyadi glorified tukang masak. Maie chef western food ie steak, pasta; aku manduk utai baka sambal petai, kangkung belacan etc. Haha!
Nyadi ibu' berdedikasi. Finally betemu baru enggau bala anak aku since last Christmas! ADORABLE! geram.
Maca buku. Pelaba aku kada nda bisi sekutak besai bup dibai Maie pulai ari Sekutlan. Happee-happee! Aku pulai lalu naban ka 3 iti novel iya and stock up on all the latest magazines. Bedau ditegu aku magang nya, ka nagang diri ko jaku. Now aku sibuk catching up enggau all the new seasons' empu series. So much to watch, so little time!

Ooh, ooh! Niki gaji kami diberi SCOPE for summer course taun tu! Taun tu kami bulih Rp200 000!

Hmm. Hmm. What should i splurge on.. Hmm...

It's astonishing, the value we put on worldly things. It took me by a surprise when instead of giving me a material thing (not that i expected it, mind you), a friend offered to pray over me on my birthday. It hit me instantly, how beautiful a gift it was. It was in a league of its own. And it rocked. Big time.

My housemates got me a watch that displays the seconds. Alas, now i can count pulse, respiratory rate, clicks and gargles and what-nots properly during OSCE.

Yellllo, peeeople! Aku udah ba Jogja diatu! Pengelama aku cuti nadai ati ka update blog, kelalu bara! :)

Nyah, aku mantai ka gambar kami begawai ka Maie ba rumah panjai.

Tu salah siko geng nunu ngut/manuk. 4 iko ngut dibunuh sarinya. Siko babi benung ngandung, enda ditemu urang ke nyual iya. Munyi ka 5 tauka 6 iko babies iya dalam perut. Dibuai aya aku, sayau amat! Enti digaga ka suckling pig rice nyamai endar iya!

Tu geng makai tunu ngut. Lama udah nda makai kerigai tunu, syiok amat mangkil iya! Iya ke kiba nyin endar Maie, deh nya Atiyi, aku enggau Indai Besai.

Jelu tu dibai petunggal aku ari Mukah, 3 kilo dibeli iya. Bala aya aku pen apa lagi, alu mantap. Matar agi fresh dalam plastik alu dijingkau lalu ditelan. Kami sida Atiyi manjong meda sida ya makai kenya. Aku ka nyuba makai iya diketup aku cimit aja isi iya. Takut laban Mami aku suba allergic reaction makai matar. Enda alah aku pahai laban enggai nda ngemantup ke sakai nda kala nyepi matar.

Bisi ga mendua-meniga iko tindoh ti agi idup, taja pen udah difreeze petunggal aku for one night. Rindang diri aku bayam iya.

Tu gambar sida Mami semadi. They all came for the celebration! *Happy* Ari atas, kiba: Atiyi ngau Pacin. Baruh, kiba: Mami, Tuai ngau Indai Besai.

Nah, tu gambar sida iya enggau bala anak. Tang nda semua anak bisi ditu. Sayau inek aku enda enggau. Tusah ka dibai bejalai ga inek. Laban kisuk ke icit iya.

Apai Nyah, aya aku ti pemadu kera ngau jenaka. Iya nyepi tuak ke dibai Indai Besai ari Niah. Oh, nyamai tuak tu, ko iya. Lalu diambu iya and dilalai ke iya belakang fridge kami ngambi urang bukai enda ngirup iya. Kala kita ninga penemu nya? Haha. Ama iya mabuk lalu ka merap enggau nyium urang sengapa. Abis bala temuai diberap iya. Kadang-kadang nyabak ga iya.

Bala dara mit bekeciap minta diambi gambar.

Acara wajib benong pengerami rumah panjai. Poco poco! Peda kita 2 iko apek enggau urang poco2. Siko baru belajar, siko udah belajar tang agi ngira maya nyingkang.

Nya aja meh cerita aku. Nadai inspirasi, munyi ko laut. Ila bluging baru maya bisi idea.

Utai meransang aku benung peresa suba. Tang enda ulih ga ko cina. Ujung-ujung nyau dicok mirah enggau blond. Sida Mami madah aku baka bayat enda nyadi ba sebelah Citypoint. Eh, pia pen. Utai lawa ko aku! :P Ila udah aku tama clinical rotation nadai ulih mayuh macam baka tu. Taja pia enda aku mantai ka kita gambar, enggai ka kita remban meda iya. P/S: i do think it's awful to a certain extent.

Zaman muda jelita ngau ineseng kelia. Pui!

Jst had my supper or my bday dinner rather. At noon i was spposd 2 go out n hv lunch wif my frens.But i didnt go.Ate my lunch at abt 3pm.Got bck frm tsyn, aku meraya ba inek pinta pandu ka utai diempa. So, i ate 2 half boiled eggs, french fries n sausages on the dining table. So, that is my bday dinner.
